1999 Alban Vineyards Oechsle Botrytised Viognier Roussanne - RARE!

Alban Vineyards is a California estate with a global reputation for its powerful Rhône-influenced blends and varietal wines, which are all sold on allocation, with a lengthy waiting list.

The company is located in the Edna Valley in the southern corner of San Luis Obispo County. In total, Alban has 27 hectares (66 acres) under vine mostly located around the winery. This land has a range of different soil types and mesoclimates, making site selection vital. Alban produces around 6000 cases of wine per year, and has also sold grapes to many other producers of note, including Sine Qua Non.

Rating 95 RP - This winery also produces a small quantity of sweet wine called Oechsle. The only vintage I have tasted is the 1999, which showed surprisingly good acidity as well as a wealth of fruit that had obviously been affected by the noble rot known as botrytis.
