Domaine Armand Rousseau is one of Burgundy's oldest and most revered family-run domains. They hold many grand cru plots in Gevrey-Chambertin as well as part of the much sought-after premier cru vineyard Clos Saint-Jacques.
Founded at the start of the 20th Century by Gevrey native Armand Rousseau, the domaine initially owned small plots of vines throughout Gevrey-Chambertin. Over the next 100 years under both Armand Rousseau and his son Charles, who took over after the death of his father in 1959, the Domaine acquired various grand cru vineyards in Charmes-, Mazis- and Mazoyères-Chambertin, culminating in a plot in Le Chambertin itself in 1994.

| Robert Parker | The dark ruby-colored 1999 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St.-Jacques has exuberant, sweet, blackberry fruit aromas. This medium to full-bodied wine has amplitude to its mouth-coating , black cherry, oak, and cassis liqueur flavors. It is velvety-textured, lively, and boisterous. Drink it over the next 10-11 years. |

| Burghound | 92 BH - The expressive nose of spice, earth and Gevrey style sauvage hints presently mixes mostly secondary fruit aromas with the last vestiges of primary red fruit that is trimmed in enough wood to notice. The supple, round and delicious middle weight flavors display plenty of the hallmark minerality along with a lovely sense of balance on the solidly persistent finish that delivers fine is not truly outstanding depth. For my taste this has reached an inflection point in its aging curve where it could be drunk now with pleasure or held for a few more years first. As an aside, while this is a perfectly good wine, by the very high standards it typically achieves 1999 is not a standout vintage. Tasted multiple times recently with consistent results as my scores have ranged from 91 to 93 points. |
