2016 Domaine Armand Rousseau Gevrey Chambertin Clos St Jacques Burgundy

Domaine Armand Rousseau is one of Burgundy's oldest and most revered family-run domains. They hold many grand cru plots in Gevrey-Chambertin as well as part of the much sought-after premier cru vineyard Clos Saint-Jacques.

Founded at the start of the 20th Century by Gevrey native Armand Rousseau, the domaine initially owned small plots of vines throughout Gevrey-Chambertin. Over the next 100 years under both Armand Rousseau and his son Charles, who took over after the death of his father in 1959, the Domaine acquired various grand cru vineyards in Charmes-, Mazis- and Mazoyères-Chambertin, culminating in a plot in Le Chambertin itself in 1994.

Robert Parker 95 RP - The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques is showing brilliantly from bottle, soaring from the glass with aromas of raspberries, Griotte cherries, peonies, rich soil tones, smoked meats and dark chocolate, framed by a deft application of cedary new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a rich and multidimensional core that's framed by refined tannins and a lively spine of acidity, concluding with a long and pungently intense finish.
Wine Spectator 97 - Gorgeous aromas of rose, strawberry, cherry and sandalwood are enhanced by licorice, earth and spice notes on the palate in this complex, harmonious red. Silky and racy, this channels a minerally graphite element on the long aftertaste.
Burghound 95 BH - An elegant, pure and exuberantly spicy nose blends notes of super-fresh essence of red berries with wisps of earth, lavender and a background hint of oak. The equally pure middle weight flavors possess excellent mid-palate concentration along with an intense mineral streak while delivering stunningly good depth and persistence on the beautifully well-balanced finish. The '16 CSJ is a combination of finesse and punch and one that should age effortlessly for years.
